Joshua Dorn, administrator at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation (Perrysburg, OH), received a Heartfelt Thank You to his team from the wife of Erik who received his Heart’s Desire to walk his daughter down the aisle.

“Josh,

I wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to you and your team for helping my husband recover from a very long and intense virus. My husband contracted COVID-19 in January and was in the acute care system until he came to ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Perrysburg in June. Erik spent 240 days of 2021 under hospital care, from Bay Park ICU to Toledo Hospital ICU to Regency and finally to Perrysburg. I saw more nurses and doctors than I care to count. I want you to know that the nurses at Perrysburg were among the most wonderful and caring. You could see that patient care was their calling in life. Knowing that he had already had a long and difficult journey, they were patient and encouraging. Sean, Sherry and Myra definitely come to mind, but there are others. The nurse aides, Nita, Naomi, Katelyn and Megan were amazing! Please thank Angela and Dolly again for helping us organize our daughter’s private outdoor Wedding Ceremony just days after we arrived. Please thank Megan (DON), the Nurse Practitioners and all of the housekeeping and dietary staff as well. His health wouldn’t have improved without them!

Vaishali, John, Ryan, Dawn were a blessing to his OT/PT therapy recovery. I cannot believe how quickly he was able to walk, bend and do other therapy tasks. When he arrived there, he could barely get out of bed on his own and now he is doing daily tasks and walking with a cane. I also cannot say enough about Diane, speech therapist, and how she helped him with his speech and swallowing therapy. We both are extremely grateful for all of their talent and support in his recovery.

Finally, we are thankful for Kim in helping us with our discharge and Tracy for always having a smile.

I cannot put into words what it meant to us. It has been a long road and I know I could have sent him anywhere. As an employee of ProMedica, I trusted that we had the best there is and your team proved that!

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has made gathering with families, celebrating special occasions and making memories more difficult than ever. This is especially the case when a loved one battles it themselves. Erik has been hospitalized for the majority of 2021 after contracting COVID-19. Meanwhile, his daughter was planning a wedding and wanted nothing more than her dad to be able to walk her down the aisle.

The team at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation (Perrysburg, OH) came together to throw a quaint ceremony where Erik was able to hold his daughter’s hand as she walked down the aisle. The activities department provided center pieces and The Commons, A ProMedica Senior Living Community, provided the use of their courtyard and gazebo to hold the nuptials under. It was a beautiful evening full of love that a father and daughter can cherish forever.
